fequently asked questions ABOUT FENCING

About the sport

Is fencing safe?

The practice of any sport involves a certain level of risk. However, and despite the fact that we are working with weapons, fencing is considered a safe sport  when we follow all safety rules.

The specific equipment is mandatory for all fencers, because it ensures a safer practice.

Which weapons do you have in your club?

As of today - January 2025 -  we are an Epee-only club. We have friends  in other clubs that can guide you in Saber and Foil. Give us a call and we will help you with that.

Are the weapons real?

Well, they sure are. Metallic and plastic blades are all blunt, still they are weapons. We teach our kids the safety standards, starting at minute one; and the most important is: "keep your tip down while you are not fencing". They soon understand and get used to manage themselves inside the club environment.

Do kids use real weapons?

All classes are performed with real weapons. However, the youngest kids use plastic equipment for one simple reason: they are lighter, and more comfortable for their small body and hands. It allows them to perform in a better way, while learning all safety standards.

About the classes

Am I too old to start?

Never! Fencing is an amazing art, to be practiced by people 4 - 99+. It provides excellent physical activity in the most engaging possible way.
Not exciting enough?  Well, there are adult competition circuits across the globe, and they are  a fantastic way to make friends and live new experiences. Give us a call, bring a friend and let's get started!

Is my kid too young to start?

We start at age 4 with our Petite Musketeers class. As any other sport or activity, every kid picks contents in a different way. Please relax and let them enjoy the class and being part of the group. Trust the process.

In this stage the classes involves more coordination, agility and rule following activities, that will lead to the introduction of positions and movements proper of fencing.

What to wear on my first day?

For younger kids - 4 to 8  years old - we use long sport pants, t-shirt and sport shoes (no baseball or soccer cleats, no open toe shoes or croc style, please).

For 9 years old and up, bring shorts, long socks (to the knee), sport closed shoes, t-shirt. You will be using the white fencing pants on top of the pants you are wearing.

Please tie your hair if long. Headbands are always a great idea.

Don't forget your bottle of water for hydration!

Do I need previous experience?

Absolutely not. We are here to teach you fencing from day one.  We will start with fundamentals, and  move in the program as you grow as a fencer.

Do I need my own equipment?

Not to start. We provide all equipment during the first month of class. After that time, we guide you in the process of getting your own gear.

Join us to discover the magic of fencing!
