Our girls made it to the Top 8 in both Y10 and Y12 Mixed Epee events, in a morning full of fun and good fencing, on Saturday, January 13. With commitment and dedication they walk their way to be great fencers!

The Austin Challenge is a SYC (Super Youth Circuit) event. That means that people form all regions can come and fence for National Points. Therefore, you can witness and experience different fencing styles from every corner of the country. With the participation of four students, we attended Battle in Space City, an annual tournament hosted by Space City Fencing Club, at the University of Houston.
In their return to using the whites, Maestra Silvia and Maestro Paul earned Top 8 in their respective veteran events. Fencing for adults is an interesting side of our discipline, where experience combines with fun. We certainly appreciate our adult and veteran fencers. They are always great role models and a big addition to our team. Let wish them all success!
On November 4th, one of our students earned his first E rating. Despite not bringing home a medal, this achievement is an important step for our school. Ratings are giving based on the number of participants at each event, as well as the number of rated participants and the position achieved at the event. This rating will ensure better seeding for future competitions.
Both of our students did a great job, competing at the local level. Congratulations and keep the good work!
On November 18 we celebrated our first Thanksgiving Tournament, with events in the Y10, Y12 and Y14 categories. We had a great time with our students demonstrating the best of their abilities, and spending a great time with our fencing family. We would like to thank Coaches Andrea and Lee, and our parents and students.
North American Cups are always a great learning experience for our students. We participated in Y14 on November 10; an event with more than 100 fencers. People coming from all over the country give this competition an special touch, where the competitive level is always an opportunity for our student's growth. We can't wait to see what the future holds for us.
Thank you parents and fencers for your hard work and dedication.
On October 14-15, Coach Silvia attended the Individual Lesson Coaching Clinic. This event, organized by Salle De Long in El Paso, TX; was presented by Maestra Margaret Ready De Long (Foil), and Maestro Evandro Duarte Oliveira (Epee).
With 15 Coaches attending, and a outstanding 50% women participation, the clinic was full of learning and professional growth, as well as an opportunity to connect with new and emerging clubs. We all shared our experience and knowledge in fencing education.
This was a United States Fencing Coaches Association approved clinic, where several coaches came to obtain a higher certification on their coaching pathway. At Dragon Heart Fencing Academy, continuous education is of utmost importance: every single piece of information contributes to the improvement of our students, and to our club performance.
Clinic content included: how to build your individual lesson, cues and signs, tempo and distance drills and exercises; games and group activities, and much more. Maestra Silvia shared a brief talk on fencing and health and encouraged every new coach to continue their pathway to higher certification.
Congratulations to all new certified coaches and thank you Maestra Margaret de Long for welcoming us. We felt at home.
